5 Things to Keep in Mind When Purchasing Your Condo Insurance Policy

5 Things to Keep in Mind When Purchasing Your Condo Insurance Policy By Alfred Ardis

At the risk of stating the obvious, a condo is very different from a house. Nevertheless, both types of property must be insured. While it might seem counterintuitive that condo insurance is more complicated than homeowner's policies, since the former is smaller, it's actually quite true. Between dealing with the building association, the building's master policy, and other residents, it's not as straightforward as a simple homeowner's policy. Check out these tips to keep in mind when shopping for your condo insurance.

1. Find Out What the Master Policy Covers First

When you pay your condo association dues, you're throwing your money in with all the other owners to collectively insure the common areas of the building. This is called a master policy. Before you sign on to a personal policy for your own residence, investigate the terms of the master policy and find out exactly what you're already paying for so that you don't pay for double coverage unnecessarily. There are two main types of master policies: bare walls-in or all-in. Bare walls-in policies cover everything to do with the building's actual structure, but nothing within the unit itself. All-in policies can cover certain fixtures inside the unit, such as lighting or flooring. Bare walls-in master policy owners will need a higher rate of individual insurance than those who hold an all-in master policy.

2. Content vs. Structure Policies

When you choose your condo insurance policy, you have to make sure your policy covers both content and structure, not one or the other. In the event of a fire, you not only want to be able to replace your rugs (content), but you also want to be able to replace your kitchen cabinetry (structure). Make sure you have a condo insurance policy that covers both.

3. Know the Difference Between Cash-Value and Replacement-Cost Coverage

Cash-value coverage factors depreciation into its payout amounts. For instance, if you were to replace a mattress five years after buying it, the cash-value policy would factor in five years of depreciation when figuring out how much money you are owed. Replacement-cost coverage does not factor in depreciation. You would get the money you need to replace your mattress with a new model today, resulting in a higher payout.

4. Natural Disaster Coverage

Does your condo insurance cover floods? What about if you have a toilet backup? While a master policy might cover flood damage to the actual building, it will not help you replace your belongings damaged by a flood. Water backup coverage is another area where residents should purchase individual policies in the case of a sewer overflow in the building.

5. Determine if Liability Coverage is Necessary

What would happen if someone sued you over damaged property caused by your guests or children? Does your insurance policy cover liability? When thinking over this type of coverage, it's usually best to err on the safe side and get at least minimum liability coverage in case you or a family member is the cause of an accidental mishap or your dog bites someone.

It's never a bad idea to purchase additional coverage beyond the minimal amount the condo's master policy covers. You'll have to consider your particular needs and lifestyle when deciding which policy to select, but the peace of mind will be worth it in the long run.

Understanding Your Homeowners Insurance Policy

Understanding Your Homeowners Insurance Policy By Michael Zuren PhD.

Homeowners insurance is a policy that protects homeowners from financial liability resulting from damage caused to or on their property. There are several types of insurance policies with different options that protect owners from risk.

Insurance policies cover many risks such as: (1) lightning, (2) theft, (3) vandalism, and (4) falling objects in storms. Other potential issues such as: (1) explosions, (2) civil unrest, (3) falling objects, (3) vehicles, (4) smoke damage, (5) weight of ice snow or sleet, (6) freezing, (7) heating and air-conditioning (8) fire protection systems, (9) appliances, (10) fences, and (11) other dwellings, may be covered under your insurance policy. Standard insurance policies also cover damage from snow and damage to electrical and plumbing systems. Most insurance policies provide a $100,000 per person /$300,000 total per incident liability coverage. There are some surprising items covered under a standard homeowners insurance policy which include other household members' property, such as a children(s) property. For instance, if you have a child in college who lives on campus their personal possessions would be covered under their parent(s)' insurance policy.

There are three different levels of homeowners insurance that can be purchased. The different levels of insurance include: (1) on actual cash value, (2) replacement costs, and (3) guaranteed replacement costs. The actual cash value coverage provides owners with payments to replace homes or covered belongings at their current depreciated value. Whereas, replacement coverage pays for the cost of fixing or replacing possessions, and guaranteed replacement coverage pays for the complete rebuilding of the house (no matter the cost). There is also extended coverage which pays for up to a percentage of the policies covered limit.

The benefits of purchasing homeowners insurance include transferring financial risk from the homeowner to the insurance company. Homeowners insurance will also pay the medical expenses of third parties who are injured on your property. Homeowners insurance can be expensive, but there are ways to reduce the cost. The first and easiest way to reduce your annual expense is to increase your deductible; you can also reduce the annual cost of your insurance by installing a security system. It should also be noted that non-smokers on average pay less for homeowners insurance than smokers.

There are many things that standard insurance policies do not cover; these include damage caused by floods, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Although, these uncovered risks could be covered under a different insurance policy. Also, it is highly suggested for homeowners to add sewer backup as a protection endorsement. This endorsement is relatively inexpensive and would cover sewer backup into a home which would cover damage to floors, walls, furniture, and electrical systems. In addition to homeowners insurance covering your dwelling, it also covers other buildings on the property, landscaping, damage or loss to your personal property, and belongings. Your policy should also cover any temporary living expenses you may have if you or your home is damaged, in addition to covering anyone else injured on your property. It is always a good idea to thoroughly review the insurance coverage's prior to accepting a policy. If you have questions, ask you agent for guidance.

4 Mistakes to Avoid When Buying Home Insurance

4 Mistakes to Avoid When Buying Home Insurance By Alfred Ardis

If you are searching for a home insurance policy, you need to make sure you know exactly what you are doing. There are many things to know about the process, and there is ample opportunity for mistakes if you don't know what to ask for. Here are some mistakes you do not want to make:

Forgetting to Insure Your High Value Items

One of the biggest things that many people overlook when purchasing home insurance is covering their high value items. Many policies will cover your actual house structure as well as a certain percentage of your property like your furniture, clothing, and electronics. However, if you have items in your house that are extremely high in value, such as expensive furs or rare artwork, you may need to purchase additional coverage to ensure that these items are protected.

Not Choosing the Right Deductible

Some people often have difficulty when deciding on a deductible rate. There are pros and cons to both low and high rates. Lower deductibles often come at the expense of a larger premium, while the premiums on higher deductibles are less expensive. You will want to take special care before choosing a higher deductible. You could end up with nothing if you lose all of your possessions and can't afford to pay the high deductible.

Leaving Out Important Information

The insurance agent will often ask you many questions when they are writing your policy. They will need to know certain things about your property to determine how it should be covered. They may ask the breed of your dog, whether or not you have a swimming pool, or if you have a trampoline in your yard. All of these may seem like odd questions to you, but the insurer needs this information to determine your rate. Not providing accurate information could lead to the cancellation of your policy.

Not Adding Enough Add-On Protection

Home insurance is designed to cover your house and possessions from fire damage, burglary, and wind damage. However, regular policies do not usually cover damage from flooding or earthquakes. If you live in a zone where these things are a possibility, you need to make sure you purchase add-on coverage in the event you lose your home to one of these catastrophic events.

When you are buying a home insurance policy, it is important that you know what all the process entails. Be sure you don't make any of these mistakes when choosing a policy. You want to make sure that you have enough if the unthinkable happens.

Making the Right Choice in Home Warranty Companies

Making the Right Choice in Home Warranty Companies By Aaliyah Arthur

If you're looking to safeguard your house systems (like your air conditioner or heater) or major appliances (like your washing machine), then you're probably looking at a few home warranty companies to find the best choice for you and your dwelling. There are so many of these on the market that you may also be feeling unsure about which you should choose. Use these tips to find the right coverage for you.

1. Make sure the company you choose is licensed by the state your house is in. What's more, you can check with the agency that issues the license to find out whether or not there have ever been any complaints registered against the company, and, if there were, what they were for. You can use this strategy to compare the providers you're thinking about using.

2. While home warranty companies don't offer policies that are the same as your insurance, you can think of the coverage as similar to your health insurance, or HMO. Usually, you will have to pay a flat fee, like a copay at the doctor's office, for each visit a repair technician makes. Depending on your needs, you can usually pay a little more up front when you purchase the policy to reduce these visit fees, or you can pay a little more per visit, shrinking your upfront payment. Find a policy that warrants what you need it to at a price you can live with.

3. Make sure your read the fine print. You'll want to compare the coverage between home warranty companies to ensure that the appliances and systems that you need covered are included in your policy. Check to see that it includes your refrigerator, washing machine and dryer, HVAC system, dishwasher, and any other big-ticket item that you may not be able to replace out of pocket. Read over the fine print for caps on the amount of service you're entitled to, and look for any exclusions so you don't accidentally compromise (and in the process void) your coverage.

4. Ask how they handle claims. Find out what the average wait time is to have an item repaired or replaced. Usually, the provider will find the technician themselves to come out to your house. If this is something you don't like, you should speak with the sales representative to find out the procedure for finding your technician.

5. Make sure it's transferable. This contract can add value to a dwelling's potential selling price, and it's a great incentive for buyers to choose you over other similar places on the market. It gives them peace of mind in knowing that even if there is a system failure, they won't get buried under unexpected expenses.

Use these tips to help you choose between several home warranty companies. Thinking about how important your systems and major appliances are to the function and comfort of your house will tell you how important it is to select the right one for you.

Home Warranty Plans Protect You From Loss

Home Warranty Plans Protect You From Loss By Andrew Stratton

The process of buying a home involves a lot of decision making. One choice many homebuyers make is to buy coverage to protect them from loss in connection with their purchase. A home warranty plan is an insurance policy that protects buyers from expenses incurred after the transaction is finalized.

Before making any final decisions, analyze and review several different home warranty plans to ensure that you choose one with coverage that fits your needs and budget.

Analyze Protection

Explore the policies available to you. Some companies offer coverage that involves a flat fee every time a company representative or repairperson comes to your house. Other companies may offer more expensive policies with reduced flat fees for service. It is a matter of preference, whether you'd rather pay more initially with lower service fees, or whether you prefer a lower policy price with higher service fees.

Take some time to list the potential items that you want covered by the policy. This might include your furnace, water heater, water softener, air conditioner, refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer. Some home warranty plans can be customizable, depending on your needs. Check into coverage that includes your plumbing system, electrical system, garbage disposal, and central vacuum unit. It may also be possible to add a pool, a well pump, and septic plumbing to your policy.

Review Companies

Once you know what you need and what you can afford, it's time to contact a few companies to see what types of home warranty plans they offer. Review each plan offered by each company to determine which one fits your needs and budget the best. Check into any companies you are considering; read reviews and explore how companies responded to claims in the past. Make sure that no complaints exist against a company you are considering. Request a copy of each policy to enable you to review each one in detail. Read the policies completely, including all the fine print, to ensure that you know what each policy covers. If you find a gap in coverage, note this to determine whether it's a risk you are willing to take.

After performing your due diligence by analyzing your needs and researching the insurance companies, you will be in a prime position to choose between various home warranty plans. Choose the insurance policy that fits your needs, and then you will be confident knowing that you have coverage to protect you from financial loss in connection with equipment malfunction in your new house.

Homeowners Insurance and Filing Taxes

Homeowners Insurance and Filing Taxes By Robert B Rice

It is once again tax time! And let's face it, there can be much confusion surrounding all the tax regulations, rules and laws, especially when it comes to homeowners insurance. While you can't deduct homeowners insurance premiums if your home is only for personal use, there are some situations that may make you eligible for some tax relief when it comes to your home. The specific situations are outlined below.

Home Office Tax Deduction: If part of your home is used as a home office, a portion of your homeowners insurance premiums may be deductible on the federal income tax return. Like with other home expenses that can be used for a deduction for a home office, the insurance premium deduction is based on what percentage of your home is used for the office space. Moreover, if you have a business insurance policy for your home-based business, those business insurance premiums can be fully deductible against the income of the business.

Deductible Payment Tax Deduction: If you've had home possessions that have been damaged or stolen and you were only partially reimbursed for the losses by your insurance policy, you may be eligible for a tax deduction on the remaining damages that you were not reimbursed for. Additionally, if you paid a deductible before the insurance policy made its contribution for the damaged or stolen items, you may be able to write off part of your personal monetary loss from the deductible payment on your federal tax return.

Casualty Loss Tax Deduction: If your homeowners insurance policy did not fully reimburse you for the damage, destruction or theft of your home and/or its possessions due to an accident, natural disaster or robbery, you may be eligible to claim a casualty loss tax deduction on your federal income tax return. In the case of theft, there are specific forms for the federal tax return that must be filed and there are certain stipulations that must be followed. Please consult with your tax adviser for these regulations. Additionally, any amount you are reimbursed from the insurance policy must be deducted from the reimbursement amount for tax filing purposes.

Having homeowners insurance is of great benefit to the protection of you, your home and your possessions all year round. It is important to know your specific policies in regards to your coverage for every day occurrences, as well as for year-end tax purposes. By understanding both the benefits and limitations, you can make sure to utilize all the options that are available to you during tax season.

Mold - Covered or Not Covered?

Mold - Covered or Not Covered? By William J Louis

Mold can grow anywhere. It is a common fungus and only needs moisture and a food source such as wood, drywall, carpet and almost anything else found in a typical home.

Fortunately most types of mold won't harm you, but there are some that can cause respiratory problems that may become debilitating. All mold smells which is a good thing because it makes it relatively easy to locate.

Although no home is ever completely dry, mold is much more prevalent in states with a lot of rain, humidity and stormy weather. Mold problems can be instigated from various causes such as poorly maintained areas of the home such as the basement or laundry room. It can grow after an event such as a bursting water pipe or leaking hot water heater. It can ruin furniture, carpeting and curtains. In many cases mold remediation is going to require a professional contractor and the cost may be significant. This is where your homeowner policy can either save the day or let you down.

Whether you will have coverage for mold remediation depends on the language in your insurance policy. Most companies have put in specific language regarding mold and limit coverage to an associated covered peril. For example, if a pipe burst in your home (which would be covered) and the mold was a result of that covered peril, then by association you would probably have coverage for mold remediation. If however, you find mold growing inside a wall of your home or in the basement and it is associated with a slowly leaking water source, you're on your own. You'll either be paying out of pocket or doing the remediation yourself.

If you suspect a mold problem in your home, instead of getting on the phone with your insurance company, ask a reputable mold remediation company to provide an estimate on cleaning up the situation. If your estimate is considerably more than your deductible,
call in the claim and an adjuster will come out to investigate your claim. You will then probably be told that your policy either doesn't cover the claim or there is a sublimit (cap) on how much your company will pay.

If you cannot negotiate a favorable settlement, it's time to call a reputable Public Adjust to get help with your claim. The Public Adjuster will examine the damage and review your insurance policy, and then make a recommendation whether to fight or fold.

Renting Your Home? Here's Why You Need Renters Insurance

Renting Your Home? Here's Why You Need Renters Insurance By Andrew Stratton

Are you renting a home or apartment? Have you thought about what would happen if the house suddenly burned down and your possessions were gone forever? What if someone comes to your house for a visit and is injured? Will you be prepared to pay for their expenses? Could you pay for the replacement of property or the expense of medical damage? If not, it is time to think about investing in renters insurance. These policies can be very beneficial to anyone who leases or rents a house.

Property Damage

One common mistake many tenants make is assuming that the landlord or property management company is responsible for items that become damaged when there is a loss to the home. Unless your lease states differently, these agents are not going to replace your personal items should something occur. It is important to have adequate renters insurance to ensure that you don't lose your belongings to things like natural disasters, robberies, or house fires.

Examples of Covered Property Damage or Loss

There are a number of items that are protected if you have renters insurance. You may be under the assumption that only your expensive items are protected. However, many of your lower-value items are also protected under most polices. Some examples include clothing, electronic equipment, furniture, books, jewelry, and small appliances. These policies have limits on the value of what they cover, which is determined by the policy that you purchase.

Personal Liability

The personal liability provision in your policy is there to protect you in the event that a guest is injured in your home. If you are having friends over and someone slips on some water on the kitchen floor, you could be held responsible for their medical bills should they decide to sue you. Your personal liability provision will pay for their medical expenses, their lost wages from work, and other expenses that arise from an accident in your home.

Examples of Covered Liability Damages

Included in most personal liability policies are emergency room bills, ambulance costs, hospital and doctor's visits, and any surgeries that are needed. It will also include the cost of time off of work due to the injury and rehabilitation.

If you rent a home or apartment, it is crucial that you get some form of renters insurance. The out-of-pocket cost is minimal, and it can save you from losing thousands of dollars in merchandise and expenses. If you try to get the coverage after you have had a property loss, keep in mind that most of these policies are not retroactive and will not protect you from anything lost before the effective start date of your policy. This is why it is so important to get your policy today.

Coach House Buildings Insurance

Coach House Buildings Insurance By Hayley Connolly

The freeholder or property owner is liable to provide the Building Insurance, and requires a specific addition to the Coach House Buildings Insurance - Property owners Legal Liability Insurance. The freeholder is completely liable for all the garages despite only having access to 1 of them for themselves. It is rare, but on some occasions the freeholder of the property may not have access to any of the garages - but even in this instance would still need to provide insurance for them on behalf of the leaseholder's.

The leasehold arrangement/contract is usually a 999 year Peppercorn Lease, and it is usually specified in the deeds that no ground rent is payable. The Freeholder can ask for a nominal contribution to the cost of the Coach House Buildings Insurance if they wish. This would usually be a total of around 20% of the total Building Insurance costs between all the Leaseholder's. For example: If there were 2 garages on Leasehold, the freeholder could ask for 10% of the total Coach House Buildings Insurance Costs from each leaseholder - totalling a 20% contribution. The percentage a freeholder can ask for may vary slightly, but around 20% would be the norm. The freeholder must also be careful to remove added costs from the insurance when calculating this contribution - such as the freeholder must not include his own insurance costs for contents, or Home Emergency Cover, but remember to include costs such as Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) which is 6%. The policy provider will be able to help the policyholder with breaking down these costs.

Coach Houses also need a specific Coach House Contents Insurance, and this is something many people overlook, assuming they can have any contents insurance, flat Insurance is the most common mistake. This is not the case. If a leaseholder started a fire which destroyed the building and the contents then an insurer would not pay out to replace the contents of a coach house if the policy is for a flat. A coach House Insurance policy for Buildings and Contents allows for insured events by a leaseholder - non coach house policy's do not.

It is also beneficial to insure the contents and the buildings on a single policy - this would avoid 2 insurers, 2 claims and 2 policy excesses in most claim scenarios. Most fires damage the building and the contents, most burglaries involve damage to the building as well as theft or damage to contents, escape of water can destroy carpets (contents Insurance) as well as bring ceilings down!

Understanding Commercial Insurance for Ride Sharing Drivers and Companies

Understanding Commercial Insurance for Ride Sharing Drivers and Companies By John Rothschild

It seems like everyone loves to ride share these days -- except the traditional cab companies, of course. Whether you're the one using an App to request a ride to your destination, you're the driver making some extra cash by participating, or the huge companies who are at the forefront of the movement, many different people are involved and taking part.

One of the biggest issues at hand here though is commercial insurance for these drivers and their vehicles. Does a driver need to purchase his or her own commercial policy? Does the company need to provide him or her with that? Do personal auto policies apply? Do the same regulations which are in place for taxi cabs apply?

This has been difficult for just about everyone to figure out. That includes lawmakers and legislators, the general public, the traditional taxi cab companies, the ride-sharing companies themselves, and the people offering their rides to be shared.

Clearly, a personal auto policy doesn't seem to be an appropriate fit here. But does a full commercial insurance policy make sense? Do the extra costs of that make it worthwhile to be offering ride sharing to begin with? What is the responsibility of the ride sharing company for whom you're working?

Not all of these questions have been solved as of this time. This will continue to be a hot topic of discussion, debate, and even legal entanglement, likely for years.

However, one important development here is that the state of California has a new bill in place that ride-sharing drivers must carry commercial insurance of $50,000 per injury in an accident, up to $100,000 total, and up to $30,000 in property damage coverage. This coverage applies when they are en route to pick up a passenger, which means it kicks in when the driver has received a request and is currently in transit to pick up that passenger.

When the passenger is being driven in the company, some companies, such as Uber, provide additional coverage. Uber currently provides $1 million of liability coverage per incident, $1 million of uninsured motorist coverage, and $50,000 of comprehensive and collision, and $50,000/$100,000/$25,000 of contingent coverage.

This is only one of the very first dominoes which will be falling in this industry though. It's crucial that you stay informed with the latest news, trends and developments if you're a ride sharing driver, thinking about becoming one, or are otherwise involved with a ride sharing company. For any questions, get in touch with an insurance company or broker who is familiar with commercial vehicle insurance, the emergence of ride-sharing companies, and the regulations in place in your local area.

The Financial Conduct Authority Gap Insurance Review Will Force Competition

The Financial Conduct Authority Gap Insurance Review Will Force Competition By Jackie Verdier

The Financial Conduct Authority took over from the Financial Services Authority and made no secret of the fact they were not going to be afraid of ruffling the feathers of the financial institutions.

The Financial Conduct Authority's main aim is to increase security and awareness in the financial markets. Also to make sure that when a consumer buys a financial product, the product that they buy is "fit for purpose" and will do the way the consumer anticipates throughout the lifetime of the policy or service.

A review from such a prestigious organisation is good news for the world of gap insurance. The findings however made interesting reading.

The review went into depth and had input from both providers and insurance companies. In brief, the Financial Conduct Authority agreed that their concept of gap insurance was sound and offered a good level of protection.

They however felt that in many circumstances the policy holder was paying far too much for their policy and that this did not represent good value for money.

So does this mean that gap insurance is expensive?

Does this mean that gap insurance is no longer a viable option for the consumer?

Absolutely not. The Financial Conduct Authority agreed that the concept of the cover was worthwhile but found that customers were simply not being offered a fair deal.

This is because in most cases gap insurance is only offered at the point of vehicle sale. This leaves little or no opportunity for consumers to compare levels of cover and price differentials.

At the moment, the review has given guidance and a list of potential reforms. The most wide-reaching is that dealerships and garages will be actively encouraged to offer gap insurance and then recommend that potential policy holders research and compare the market.

This consequently means that garages will potentially no longer have a captive audience. This compare and research mentality will ultimately lead to gap insurance suppliers having to concentrate on policy terms as well as value for money.

We predict that this will cause a massive shift in the market with consumers being able to source ever improving policies at ever improving rates.

Competition will mean that suppliers will have to take a fresh look at policy performance and rate the premiums so. This unfortunately may mean that some suppliers withdraw or are forced from the market, however those more forward thinking and proactive organisations will thrive.

In summary, the review is good news for both consumers and the market place as whole as competition will improve both policy performance as well as value for money. It will also encourage innovation and we for one cannot wait to see the new developments as they unfold.

Car Insurance - Understanding the Significance of Car Insurance

Car Insurance - Understanding the Significance of Car Insurance By Aditya Ram

Any kind of motor vehicle in public places is considered as a potential threat to the life of the driver, the passengers as well as pedestrians. It can also cause damage to your own or third-party properties. Keeping these probabilities in mind, the motor vehicle insurance law, has made it mandatory for every car owner or driver to insure their vehicles as well as themselves.

Car insurance is nothing but a safeguard against the financial risks involved in an accident. Not everyone can afford the unexpected expenses as well as the legal issues that are brought about by an accident and trying to pay all of them by yourself may empty your pocket.

However, car owners who are safe drivers may ask why do they need car insurance if they follow all the safety measures while driving - like wearing seat belts, maintaining enough gap between his car and the one in front and breaking well on time? At the end of the day if he is driving carefully and is confident and comfortable behind the wheel, he need not fear about meeting with an accident.

The question above might sound justifiable, but there is a flip side to it. You might be a careful driver and follow safety measures. But does that really immune you from all dangers? Accidents need not always happen due to a mistake of your own. As one of the famous tire brand commercials rightly says "Roads are full of idiots". Accidents are never pre-planned, it just happens at the flick of a moment. Expenditures due to accidental damages are mostly high and to cover all of them from your pocket can cost you a fortune. It is in these situations that car insurance comes to your financial aid.

There are more reasons that prove car insurance is important? Consider a situation where somebody's rash or uncontrolled driving causes death of a pedestrian or damages the property belonging to somebody else. If the driver is not able to pay for the damage and if the vehicle is not insured, then he will be in a soup. Besides, physical damages and third-party casualties generally involve extensive legal procedures to find the perpetrator, which is also highly expensive. You will be covered for all these expenses if you have a car insurance policy.

The above points thus clearly explain why car insurance is made mandatory and not optional. So if you own a car, do not have any ambiguity about buying car insurance. Just compare all the relevant policies online as per your requirements and get the best one to shield yourself, your car and the co-passengers any unforeseen incident.

How To Get Cheap Auto Insurance - 6 Valuable Tips By Jovia D'Souza

Auto insurance is a must-have. It not only covers your vehicle, but also secures you financially if ever you damage another's vehicle and a claim is made against you. Most automobile owners don't realize that they are overpaying for their auto insurance and often this happens because they settle for the first one they come across. If you are out on the market to buy cheap auto insurance and you want to make sure that you are not paying one penny more than what you should be paying, here's how you should go about your search.

1. Make comparisons:

I agree it takes a lot of time hopping from one insurance provider to another asking for quotes, but that is the only solution to get automobile insurance at a cheaper rate. Different carriers offer different insurance rates. In order to ease the task, you can contact an independent agent who deals with different carriers. A better option is to use an online comparison site. They give you the entire rate chart from different carriers based on a few details from you. This way you can find the cheapest company in terms of the coverage.

2. Check for discounts:

Auto insurance companies do offer grand discounts on their policies; the only problem is that many don't advertise them upfront. These discounts are clubbed under different categories such as membership discounts, employee discounts, student discounts, homeowner discounts or when you pay in full. So, after you have shortlisted a few auto insurance companies, you can do a search on the varied types of discounts each offers and the one's you are eligible for. This way you will be able to get your auto insurance cheaper.

3. How about some bargaining:

Auto insurance is never up for sale in the literal sense of the term, but then you can always bargain. There are many companies offering insurance services and therefore a few don't mind bringing down their price further to rope in a few additional customers. Call up their support desk and ask about the possibility.

4. Bundle you policies:

Today, we have insurance for property, automobiles, health and life. If you buy each from a different carrier, you end up paying more. Therefore, you can bundle your policies by buying them all from the same company. This way you can maximize your savings by way of discounts.

5. Avoid paying additional fees:

The first thing you can do is avoid paying monthly payments as they entail higher rates of interest. You should opt for a full payment up front. You can also have the money debited directly from your bank account. This way you will not have to pay additional fees by way of processing and paperwork. Also, make sure you pay in time to avoid penalties.

6. A clean driving record:

Drivers with a clean driving record automatically have better chances of getting cheap auto insurance than others. You can earn this through simple actions such as wearing your seat belt, parking in the right places and not talking on the cell phone whole driving. Not only this, you can think about the number of people you can add on your policy.

However, when trying to get cheap auto insurance make sure you get optimum coverage. Do not compromise on coverage for the sake of cost.

3 Tips on How to Get the Lowest Premium on Your Car Insurance

3 Tips on How to Get the Lowest Premium on Your Car Insurance By Baloch M

Did you know that there are a number of ways in which you can get the lowest premium rates on your car insurance? Here are some of the ways:

Be Wise before Shopping

Before you shop for an insurance policy you should ensure that you develop a great driving record. This calls for you to always obey the speed limit and other driving laws in your area. When driving always drive defensively.

You should stay on your parents' insurance as long as you can. You should note that your rates will go high when you buy your own insurance.

To show that you are a good driver you should take a defensive-driving course from the National safety council. You should note that while most insurance companies will give you a discount, not all companies will.

Another wise way of doing things is to maintain a good credit score. When you have a good credit score it shows that you are responsible thus eligible for discounts.

Be Wise When Choosing the Insurance Company

Always compare prices from different insurance companies. While you may find that most companies offer the same product, insurance prices tend to vary a lot. As rule of thumb you should go for the cheapest policy.

If you have a life, homeowner's or renter's insurance you should contact the company and request for auto rates. Since you are already a member of the company you will most definitely attract interest.

Maintain Your Policy

When you make the purchase always choose a high deductable. You should keep the money that you save in a savings account and use it to pay the deductable in the event you are involved in an accident.

To avoid penalties and show that you are responsible you should always pay your insurance coverage in advance. For ideal results it's wise that you make annual payments. While monthly rates may appear affordable, they often add significant costs to your overall cost.

Another tip of maintaining the discount is to ensure that you maintain the coverage without lapses. Remember that insurers tend to charge more for reinstatement of insurance. The rates after the reinstatement usually go higher.

Conclusion

These are tips on how to get the lowest premium rates on your car insurance. Even after settling on a given policy, always be looking around. When you find cheaper rates elsewhere, ask your current company for a price decrease.

Review, Reconsider, Reduce, And More: How to Save on Car Insurance

By Andrew Stratton

You may be leaving money on the table if you haven't examined your car insurance coverage lately. It's typical for people to overpay for this coverage, especially if you haven't analyzed your protection and the options available to you. Different factors will combine to determine what you might pay.

Request a Review

If you've had a clean driving record for some time and haven't had any accidents or traffic citations, you might be eligible for a premium reduction based on your exemplary record. Similarly, people with good credit ratings often receive lower premium quotes because better credit ratings indicate a higher level of responsibility. Ask your agent to review your account to see if you are eligible for a rate reduction based on your driving record or your credit score.

Reconsider Your Deductible

If your current deductible is low, you can protect yourself from out-of-pocket expenses. However, you might decide that you're willing to run the risk of some expenses in exchange for a lower premium. While this can be risky, if you and everyone covered on your policy are experienced and safe drivers with solid driving histories, this can be an effective way to reduce your expenses because of the lower likelihood that you will be involved in accidents.

Reduce Your Driving

Many companies track customers' mileage and base premiums on the number of miles people drive. If you can reduce the number of miles you drive, your car insurance premiums may fall. Carpooling can be one effective way to reduce the number of miles you drive. You may also lower your mileage by using public transportation and other forms of transportation such as biking or walking. Sometimes just combining errands and monitoring how you use your vehicles can lower your driving mileage.

Eliminate Forms of Coverage

With a late model vehicle, you will need collision coverage to protect you from loss in connection with an auto accident. Collision coverage will also pay you the value of your automobile if it is a total loss. As a vehicle ages, it depreciates in value. For this reason, this protection may not be worth the expense because the amount paid to you by the company would be nominal due to the reduced value. Comprehensive coverage is protection against loss from incidents unrelated to accidents, such as weather damage. Consider dropping collision and/or comprehensive coverage to reduce your premiums, as long as you are willing to pay for any damage yourself.

Additional Policies

Many companies offer different types of policies to protect customers from loss in a variety of areas, such as renter's, homeowner's, and health insurance. If you need additional coverage for other areas of your life, consider bundling all of your insurance policies from one company. Customers who practice this bundling often receive extra volume discounts, which can save significant money.

Car insurance is a necessary expense, but don't pay more than you need to pay to protect yourself from loss. A little effort might enable you to save money.

Get the Right Vehicle Insurance for Your Delivery Work

Get the Right Vehicle Insurance for Your Delivery Work

Get the Right Vehicle Insurance for Your Delivery Work
By Norman Dulwich

Going into delivery work is an excellent job, but one that must be taken seriously. Apart from the competitive industry, there are also many things that you will need to pay attention to in order to guarantee that your operation will run smoothly.

If you plan on employing other drivers, you will need to ensure not only that they are competent enough, but also that you will be able to guarantee their safety while on the job as well. This is where proper vehicle insurance comes in, something that not all start-up owners take into consideration seriously when setting up a courier service. However, getting the vehicles your drivers are going to use insured is not only necessary, it is one of the most crucial steps you need to take before you open for business. Here are a few tips on how to do it properly.

Understanding Why You Need It

Insurance policies don't come in a 'one-size-fits-all' package. Basically, how much you are going to pay for a policy will depend on a range of factors, beginning with just what you will use the vehicle for. When it comes to delivery work, the value of goods you'll transport will also be a factor in determining how much your vehicle insurance will cost. For example, if you are going to be delivering mostly small packages, and the coverage area you plan on servicing doesn't go beyond your own town, you may find a cheaper policy that will cover the essentials. However, if you are going to transport money, fragile goods, or valuable jewellery, you might want to consider upping your level of coverage in case something happens to the goods en route to the destination.

Prioritizing Safety

Having said that, however, it doesn't mean that you can neglect to factor in the safety of your drivers. As a matter of fact, when considering an insurance policy, you need to think about the medical coverage included in it first and foremost, to make sure that in case you or your drivers are involved in a road accident, the burden of medical expenses is adequately covered. Prioritising your drivers' safety doesn't just mean getting them medical insurance, it also means ensuring the vehicles they drive are always in top condition, because delivery work means being exposed to various risks on the road.

Finding the Right Policy

Considering all the abovementioned factors will help you narrow down your choices when you are looking for options for an appropriate insurance policy. As long as you prioritise the safety of both drivers and goods in every aspect of the delivery work, it will be easy for you to identify what policies are potentially good purchases and which ones are not.

The bottom line is that finding the right insurance policy doesn't really have a lot to do with how cheap you can get it! If you buy a cheap policy that won't really benefit you, your drivers, the goods, and the clients in the long run, it will be an utter waste of money. However, if all the important factors are covered, spending a little more than your budget will still be a good decision over buying a cheap, useless policy.

Car Insurance or Vehicle Insurance

Car Insurance or Vehicle Insurance

Car Insurance or Vehicle Insurance
By Aman Tumukur Khanna

Car Insurance is one of most important policy coverages for automobiles. However this kind of policy may differ from state to state within a country itself and the terms of cover and protection may change in percentages and ratios. A car insurance policy provides protection to vehicle owners in times of accidents involving cars covered by these policies as well as extend cover for damages caused to third parties.

Broadly, car insurance policies cover six high risk categories, the premium payouts are based on the pricing for each of these separately.

• Accident or collision cover
• Bodily injury liability
• Comprehensive
• Medical
• Property damage liability
• Uninsured motorists' coverage

Accident cover or collision cover - provides accident and injury coverage for policy holder if he sustains injury while travelling in an insured vehicle, along with damages to the insured vehicle.

Bodily injury liability or third party legal liability - a driver may be legally required to pay compensation if his car causes injury to a third person or results in the death of a third person. Most car insurance policies provide cover against legal liabilities that are caused by accidental damages to third person and property. The coverage limit for injuries or death is not fixed and depends on a case-to-case basis.

Comprehensive - some insurance policies cite this as 'Vehicle Damage' which includes natural calamities. Comprehensive generally excludes accidents but includes theft, and damage to car from natural calamities such as earthquake, explosion, fire, flood, hurricane, landslide, lightning, falling objects etc.

Medical - also known as Personal Injury Protection (PIP), this covers medical treatment of injuries to the occupants of the insurance holder's car at the time of an accident. It can extend to include medical or hospital bills, lost wages and some other clauses which may vary.

Property Damage Liability - provides cover against damage by the policy holder to third party property. The coverage for property damage is mostly defined.

Uninsured motorists' coverage - this covers treatment costs for the insurance policy holder from injuries sustained through accident or collision with an uninsured driver or vehicle. Although not all state insurance rules specify or require that car owners must have insurance to cover all these risks, they recommend minimum liability cover for bodily or personal injury protection and property damage.

Other elements that are included as add-on risks depending on need or request from policy holders are:

• Auto replacement
• Rental car coverage
• Towing coverage

Will Insurance Pay for Windshield Repair?

Will Insurance Pay for Windshield Repair? Will Insurance Pay for Windshield Repair?
By Jillynn Stevens, Ph.D., MSW
It's good to know if your insurance covers windshield repair before an accident happens. Rarely is it the fault of the driver when a windshield begins to crack. More commonly, small rocks and debris flying through the air after being churned up by other vehicles on the roadways cause the crack in your windshield.
What Caused the Windshield Damage?
Determining the reason for the damage and the extent can help you decide if you should simply repair the windshield, or if a complete replacement is in order. Chips caused by gravel can be easy to repair, but extensive damage after colliding with a large animal or falling branches from a storm may warrant a replacement.
Unless you have comprehensive coverage on your vehicle, insurance companies will not cover costs. Most insurance policies only require the insured to carry liability coverage, so many drivers opt out of comprehensive coverage to save on their monthly bill. If you do have comprehensive coverage, you must find out if auto glass repair is covered under the terms of your policy. Sometimes the policy may only cover the windows, not the windshield, so obtain your policy documents for review.
How High is Your Deductible?
If windshield repair is covered under your policy, find out the total deductible amount. If it is the same as the cost to replace your windshield, it might be beneficial to simply pay for the replacement alone. Even if the windshield damage was not your fault, the insurance claim will go on record. Of course, not every policy counts auto glass claims against you; some companies file it in the "no-fault" category, but contact your insurance agent to be sure before deciding to file a claim.
How Do You File a Claim?
Depending on your insurance company, you may be able to file an auto glass claim over the phone, through the mobile application or in person at their office. You can either choose an auto glass repair shop contracted by the company, or find a network repair provider. Some insurance agencies require the work to be completed at the shop of their choice, while others may allow you to schedule the repair and submit the receipt after the fact, receiving reimbursement at that point.
Know the difference between original engine manufacturer parts (OEM) and aftermarket parts. Your insurance may only cover the repair if it is completed with aftermarket parts, but OEM parts are safer, stronger and more reliable. To upgrade to OEM parts, your insurance may allow you to pay for the difference in price.
Regardless of the status of your insurance policy, each windshield crack should be repaired as quickly as possible to keep you safe while driving your vehicle. Small chips that could have been repaired can quickly splinter into a much larger break if they go unattended. Contact your local auto glass repair shop for an estimate and further advice regarding windshield repair insurance and costs.

Can I Get a Loan to Cover My Medical Expenses?

Medical emergencies are costly, even if you have the best medical coverage available. People who have no insurance at all are charged exorbitant fees-out-of-pocket-which can result in bankruptcy. For those who have coverage, co-pays and deductible costs can add up to quite a bit of money each year. It is no wonder that medical bankruptcies were the leading cause of personal bankruptcies during the year 2013, according to a survey conducted in 2013.

If you do not pay your medical bills, your creditors may harass you. Over time, it can give you a disastrous credit score. There are other options that you can take advantage of to obtain money to pay off your medical expenses.

Personal Loans Can Cover Medical Expenses

If your credit score is good and you have a steady income, you may be able to get a personal loan. If you are ill, though, you may be behind in your payments. If so, this may lower your credit score and cause you difficulty when trying to obtain a loan.

Personal loans, however, are a much better option than using your credit card to pay your medical bills. Personal loans generally have a much better interest rate than credit cards.

Some banks offer loans designed to help their customers pay their medical expenses. The Health Advantage Loan is an example of such a loan.

Home Equity Loans Can Cover Medical Expenses

If you are a homeowner, you can borrow by taking out a home equity loan or line of credit. With such a loan, your credit score will not be as much of a factor in obtaining a loan.

A home equity loan, however, is not without risk. If you cannot pay back your loan, the financial institution from whom you borrowed the money can claim your home.

A line of credit allows you to borrow only what you need at a given time. You will be approved for the maximum amount that you can borrow. This type of credit is more flexible than a line of home equity credit.

Credit Cards Can Cover Medical Expenses

If you have good credit, you may want to take a look at using a credit card to pay some medical expenses. Although in general, credit card interest rates are usually higher, you can pay for your medical treatment quickly with a credit card.

Compared with loan payments, your minimum payments will usually be less. There is a catch, however. If you only pay the minimum, you will pay much more interest over the life of the loan. It also means that it will take you longer to pay off the card.

Many banks and credit unions offer credit cards with low interest rates and no annual fees. Some cards are a better deal for people who pay off their balance each month, while others provide customers with low interest rates if they cannot pay off the entire amount in one month.

Health Savings Accounts Can Cover Medical Expenses

Your employer may offer an HSA account. If you have this option, you may want to take advantage of this benefit before you need to use the money. By planning ahead, you can save yourself the hassle of having to use loans or credit cards to pay for your medical expenses.

An HSA is a specialized savings account. Every month, your employer will deduct a small amount to put into your HSA. Over time, the amount can add up to huge savings if you become ill and are faced with medical bills.

Introduction to Pawnshop Loans

It is not unusual for anybody to suddenly face a financial crunch. At times, you may have unexpected medical bills, perhaps find it difficult to pay the tuition fee of your child, or have no arrangements for making a timely payment on the loan you may have availed for buying your house. That is normal, at some time or the other, anybody can have unexpected expenses. Under such circumstances you have two options. One is to sell some of your personal belongings. The other option is to borrow money from a pawnshop.

Before you approach a pawnshop for taking a loan, you should understand this business and you need to be aware of a couple of things.

1. What's a pawn shop? It's a business which provides loans for short-term against collateral. Collateral can be any valuable item. Some pawnshop owners also buy and sell used or new items.

2. How is the business of pawnshops different from payday loans? Payday loans are typically short-term loans and available only to those having a proof of getting regular paychecks. These loans also take into consideration your credit score. Pawnshops extend the loan against collateral. If you fail to return the borrowed amount, the pawnshop owner retains the stuff offered as collateral.

3. What is the modus-operandi of a pawnshop? The process is quite simple. You call upon a pawnshop with the item you intend offering as collateral, the owner of pawnshop assesses its worth, and based on his assessment, he offers you a loan. Usually, you get about 50% of the price of the offered collateral. The duration of the loan is usually ninety days, but it can be renewed by paying additional fees.

After you return the borrowed amount in full, the collateral is returned to you. The conditions of the loan are generally offered in writing on the pawn ticket given to you at the time of accepting loan.

4. What is the amount of money offered by pawnshops? Primarily, it depends on the item you offer as collateral. The loan may be as small as just hundred dollars or it could be thousands of dollars.

5 What are the consequences of not paying back the loan? If you fail to return the amount borrowed, the pawnshop simply retains the item you offered as collateral.

6. Is your credit score affected on borrowing funds from pawnshops? Pawnshops do not verify your credit while offering loans. You just need to mortgage your item for getting loans. Even when you fail to payback the borrowed money, the matter is not reported to any credit agency.

7. Items that may be offered as collateral for taking a loan from a pawnshop: You should understand that the items you offer as collateral should easily be disposable by the pawnshop when you are unable to return the borrowed amount. Most pawnshops would generally accept any household item as collateral, deepening on the amount to be borrowed. They prefer small expensive items, like expensive jewelry, coins, musical instruments, collectible items, home electronics and weapons. Some pawnshops would also accept larger items, including boats, cars and motorcycles.

8. Are pawnshops officially authorized? Yes, it is a legally approved business, with each state having defined rules and regulations in regards to who can operate and from where, as well as the kind of services that can be offered. It is strongly recommended to always deal with licensed pawnshops.
